Webinar Overview:
Ohio Revised Code Section 3503.10 designates Ohio’s public libraries as voter registration locations. With this designation comes additional responsibilities. Join OLC staff and Alande Orelien from the Ohio Secretary of State’s Office for a one-hour webinar about the requirements for public libraries as we prepare for the 2024 election in November. Utilize this free webinar as an opportunity to educate library staff on the do’s and don’ts before the busy general election cycle this fall.

Overview:
The transition to a new management role can be challenging even for experienced and highly-skilled employees. The OLC’s New Directors Workshop Series is created specifically for new and aspiring library directors who want to develop their management skills, confidence and effectiveness. This comprehensive leadership training will cover proven techniques and powerful strategies for success in your new role. The program will be delivered through four workshops; each focusing on a specific area of education. You can attend the entire series or choose the workshop(s) you would like to attend.
Who Should Attend: Library directors with less than three years of experience as a director, interim or acting directors, or library staff with management and/or administrative experience who aspire to become a library director.
What’s Included: Morning coffee, light refreshments and lunch will be provided for those who attend at the OLC office. All handouts, provided by presenters, will be available online through the OLC app. Print them prior to the conference, view them from your personal device during the event or view/download them after the event. Workshop recordings and handouts will be available online for 30 days following the program. We know that libraries are safe spaces that welcome all people. Places that can be particularly helpful for refugees and new Americans to come for resources and support. Public libraries are at a unique advantage to reach underserved adult ESL learners. It’s already happening. Libraries are hosting ESL conversation groups, citizenship classes, and language tutoring. But how do we best increase our effectiveness and reach? In this session, we will discuss how partnering with local non-profit organizations and schools will help your library provide responsive and meaningful outreach and programming to immigrants and refugees. Join us to learn more about the different ways libraries can adapt to fulfill the growing needs of English language learners in our Ohio public library systems.

The line between stress and burnout is a blurred one, and it’s often difficult to see where one ends and the other begins. This interactive session will discuss the difference between stress versus burnout and ongoing change in the workplace, compassion fatigue and what we can do about it. We will identify practical coping skills that can benefit you both professionally and personally. Audience participation is encouraged as we will borrow strength and real-life suggestions from each other.

This workshop is primarily designed for new public library fiscal officers, deputy fiscal officers, and directors, but it can also serve as a valuable refresher. You will gain a better understanding of the main duties of a public library fiscal officer and get the latest information on fund accounting, budgeting, reporting, OPERS, library funding and key legislative issues impacting public libraries. This is an opportunity to learn from and share ideas with other public library fiscal officers from around the state.
Intended Audience: New public library fiscal officers, deputy fiscal officers, directors, or anyone who would like an overview of the functions performed by public library fiscal officers.
