Multiple Literacies Conference: Call for Programs

When most people hear the word literacy, they immediately think about one’s ability to read and write, but the fact is public libraries today are supporting many different types of literacies. This summer, the OLC will hold a new conference to explore them. The Multiple Literacies Conference will be held Fri., July 10 at the Great Wolf Lodge in Mason.

The Conference Planning Committee is seeking proposals on the following literacies:

  • Traditional (early, adult, etc.)
  • Digital/Tech (how to succeed in a digital world)
  • Media (analyzing and evaluating information)
  • Financial (how to make smart decisions with money)
  • Health/Wellness (how to make appropriate health decisions)
  • Life Skills (cooking, creativity, problem-solving, etc.)
  • Community (navigating governmental/non-profit agencies, civics, etc.)

This is an opportunity to share how your library is helping patrons acquire, construct, and communicate meaning in all aspects of daily living. The committee is looking for one-hour sessions, Quick Lits (5-7 minute presentations), un-programs, panel discussions, poster sessions, and a keynote. The program submission form is available on the OLC website. The deadline for program proposals is March 18.
