Toledo Library Director Dies Unexpectedly

We are saddened to share the news that Clyde Scoles, Director of the Toledo Lucas County Public Library, died unexpectedly on Feb. 15. Scoles was found unresponsive in the library’s parking garage by another library staff member after leaving work for the day. Paramedics were called, and he was transported to the hospital. He died at Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center. He was 69.

 

Scoles had been director of the Toledo Lucas County Public Library for 34 years, and had recently announced his intentions to retire effective June 30, 2019. Jason Kucsma, Deputy Director, will oversee the library’s operations pending the appointment of a new director.

Funeral Arrangements
Calling hours will be Thurs., Feb. 21, 4-8 p.m., at the Jerry Spears Funeral Home, 2693 W. Broad St., Columbus. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Fri., Feb. 22, at the same location. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Toledo Lucas County Public Library, 325 N. Michigan St., Toledo, OH, 43604.
