Former OLC Executive Director Fran Haley Passes Away

It is with sadness that we report the death of Fran Haley, who served as the Executive Director of the Ohio Library Council from 1993 to 2000. Fran had a deep personal respect for the library profession and for the important work of public libraries, which was reflected in the many accomplishments during her tenure. Among them was the formation and funding of the Ohio Public Library Information Network (OPLIN) which now provides access to the Internet for all of Ohio’s 251 public libraries. Additionally, Fran brought to the OLC the perspective of an experienced association management executive.

As OLC Executive Director, she oversaw the formation of a concerted effort to enhance both the OLC’s government relations efforts and professional development programming. Fran also worked closely and cooperatively with other library service organizations, particularly the State Library of Ohio and Kent State University’s School of Library and Information Science.

Fran’s family will receive visitors at calling hours on Fri., Feb. 8, 5-7 p.m., at the Baker Hazel Snider Funeral Home, 5555 Philadelphia Dr., in Dayton. A memorial service will be held on Sat., Feb. 9, 9:30 a.m., at the same location. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Brunner Literacy Center, 4825 Salem Ave, Dayton, OH 45416, which provides free, one-on-one tutoring for adults in reading, writing, and math.

Her obituary is available online.
