ALA Asks Members to Contact Congress, Save the IMLS

In response to President Trump’s budget proposal to eliminate the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the American Library Association (ALA) is asking everyone to contact Congress and tell them to save federal library funding and the IMLS.

Library champions in the House have begun circulating what are called “Dear Appropriator” letters to their colleagues. Right now, there are two letters — one that asks Appropriators to support Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funding and a second for Innovative Approaches to Literacy (IAL) funding. To show your support, call or email your Representative and ask that they sign both letters.

ALA’s Legislative Action Center has everything you need to identify your member of Congress and to tell him or her by email, tweet or phone to sign the letters and protect federal library funding in the FY 2018 federal budget. It is important to contact your Representative before the April 3 deadline.
