Program Overview: Gather successful collaborative ideas from colleagues and share your library’s successful outreach initiatives with others. Come prepared to refresh, rejuvenate, and revitalize your library’s outreach programs and services!

Intended Audience:  All library staff members interested in outreach services.

Continuing Education Credits: For those working toward their Ohio Public Librarian or Ohio Public Library Staff re-certification, this conference will count as five (5) contact hours of credit.

What’s Included: Morning refreshments and lunch. All handouts, provided by presenters, will be available online. Print them prior to the retreat, view them from your personal device during the event or view/download them after the event. The handouts will be available online for 30 days following the program.

10 a.m. | Inclusive Library Services
During the session, panel members will discuss the importance of providing inclusive library services and will give participants strategies they can take back to implement in their libraries.

11:15 a.m. | Social Worker Program
Libraries across the state are recognizing the need for social service expertise on location and are figuring out ways to make this happen. During this session, presenters will discuss ways to bring social workers on site to help library visitors find local community resources and apply for housing, food and other kinds of assistance.

12:15 p.m. | Lunch break — Show & Tell

Boxed lunches will be served by Freedom a la Cart. Freedom a la Cart empowers survivors of sex trafficking and exploitation to build lives of freedom and self-sufficiency. They believe that giving a woman practical job skills and developing strong work ethic is vital for creating a pathway to freedom. So, they have created a safe place of restoration where survivors can heal, learn and grow as they prepare for sustainable employment and reintegrate into our community.

Looking to breathe some fresh air into your day-to-day outreach work? These informal breakout sessions will offer support, practical ideas, and the chance to network with colleagues who are also interested in your chosen topic. The more conversation the better, so come prepared with questions and ideas!

2 p.m. | Closing General Session – Strategies for Self-Care and Avoiding Burnout                               

Presenter: Helka Casey, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor

In this 60-minute interactive session, you will explore ways to view and approach ongoing change in the workplace, address burnout and what we can do about it. Casey will identify practical coping skills that can benefit you both professionally and personally. Audience participation is encouraged as we will borrow strength and real-life suggestions from each other. The session will conclude with a voluntary brief guided meditation.
