Make a New Year’s Resolution for Your Professional Life

Resolve this year to get more involved with the OLC! Here are five ways to get the most out of your membership…

(1) Get Involved

Whether it is officially serving on a Committee or Action Council, presenting at a conference, preparing a poster session, or attending a workshop, there are numerous ways to get involved in the OLC. Be sure to complete the Get Involved form on the OLC website.

(2) Get Your Ohio Public Librarian or Ohio Public Library Staff Certification

Show your commitment to continuing education, the library profession, and the Ohio library community by getting your Ohio Public Librarian (CPL) or Ohio Public Library Staff (CPLS) Certification. Learn more about this important designation.

(3) Attend the Convention and Expo

Held this fall, the Convention and Expo gives you the opportunity to attend professional development sessions, visit the Expo floor, network with professionals from all over the state, and socialize with friends at a variety of events! Mark your 2023 calendar…the Convention and Expo will be held September 27-29 at the Duke Energy Convention Center in Cincinnati. Learn more about this year’s Convention and Expo.

(4) Use the Resources and Information on the OLC website

There is a lot of information and resources on the OLC website – everything from Job Listings to Core Competencies, to free Advocacy Tools that you can customize for your library. Explore the OLC website and take advantage of all of the resources available.

(5) Network

The OLC offers numerous opportunities every year to network with other library professionals, locally and statewide. For 2023, the OLC will host two, new educational events on youth services and library facilities. Be sure to check out the calendar for all upcoming OLC events. You can also collaborate with fellow members on conference planning and special projects. Consider serving on a Division Action Council or Committee that interests you. It’s a great way to enhance your skills and knowledge — and give back to the profession. Thank you for being a member of OLC!
