On May 4, voters approved all of the public library issues on local ballots around Ohio. The successful library ballot issues included eight renewals and one renewal with an increase. The levies passed by overwhelming margins with the average voter approval rate of 81% percent.

“Once again, it’s gratifying to see voters from all over Ohio recognizing the value of their public libraries,” said Michelle Francis, Executive Director, Ohio Library Council. “Our libraries have stepped forward in amazing ways during the pandemic. From expanding digital collections to helping people make vaccine appointments, libraries are focused on meeting the needs of their communities. They also serve as a critical lifeline for thousands of people who needed access to the internet.”

The revenue from these local property tax levies will provide financial support for libraries’ programs and services and complement the state funding of public libraries.

“The pandemic has exposed just how far we still have to go to ensure that everyone can access the internet,” said Francis. “Libraries are on the front lines of expanding such access, but they can’t do it without stable funding sources. Yesterday’s election results make it very clear that Ohioans support their local libraries and are willing to provide them with the financial resources necessary to serve their communities.”
