Ohio State Capitol
1 Capitol Square, Columbus, OH 43215
The Ohio General Assembly will consider hundreds of bills during a typical biennial session, but the most important legislation for us is the state budget bill which determines how much state funding public libraries will receive for the next two years. Governor Mike DeWine has released his state budget proposal for Fiscal Years 2020 and 2021. Now is the time for your voice to be heard!
Legislative Day is an opportunity for you to come to Columbus, meet with your legislators, and advocate on behalf of Ohio’s public libraries. Last year we had 261 attend and we need this year’s event to be even bigger! Every interest group in the state is making sure they have a strong presence on their Legislative Day. We want to make sure Ohio’s public libraries are well represented on Tues., April 9.
This year, Legislative Day will include remarks from Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, Senate President Larry Obhof (R-Medina) and Senate Minority Leader Kenny Yuko (D-Richmond Heights) and a luncheon with legislators (view agenda). The event also falls within National Library Week, an annual celebration of the life-changing work of libraries. It’s the perfect time to share the essential work your library is doing and put a local face on the impact public libraries have on Ohioans.
Ohio Library Showcase

This year, Ohio’s public libraries will be on display in the Statehouse Rotunda during Legislative Day. This is an opportunity for legislators to see a sampling of the broad spectrum of in-demand library programs and innovative approaches to lifelong learning utilized by Ohio’s 8.4 million library cardholders.
