Moderator: Christy Farnbauch, Executive Director, NAWBO Columbus, and President, Strategic Links

Panelists: Stephanie Meeks, Lorena Popelka, Laura Birkenhauer

Patrons love their libraries, but they aren’t interested in why one type of library is different from the others. What is the experience for libraries who “inherit” patrons from one another? Students outgrow K-12 libraries, become independent patrons of academic and public libraries, and eventually start the cycle all over again with their own families. Can we be intentional about handing off patrons, and even sharing patrons?

Moderator Christy Farnbauch, longtime strategic planner for non-profits in Ohio, will lead a discussion with panelists: Stephanie Meeks, Digital Learning Strategist, Ohio Department of Education; Lorena Popelka, Upper School Librarian, Columbus Academy; and Laura Birkenhauer, Student Success Librarian for Campus Engagement, Miami University Libraries.

Learning Outcomes:

  • listen to what other libraries need
  • discuss how to share patrons
  • learn about marketing and influencing

3:00 – 3:30 p.m. | Creating Powerful Connections

Presenter:  Kay Coughlin, CEO, Facilitator on Fire

After a day of learning and talking together, this strategic session will help identify specific needs and create long-lasting connections among the conference participants. Get ready to be led through a powerful and productive connection-building exercise.
