New Safety and Security Conference: Call for Programs

Program proposals are now being accepted for the Ohio Library Council’s all-new Library Safety and Security Conference, set for Oct. 9, 2019 at the Holiday Inn Cleveland South in Independence. Libraries strive to strike a balance between offering a broad, open door policy for community members and ensuring a safe, secure environment for staff and patrons. The conference planning committee is seeking presentations that will provide the knowledge and skills necessary to make our libraries a better, safer place to work.

The educational programming for the conference will include breakout sessions that will focus on a variety of safety and security topics including:
  • de-escalation — managing threatening situations in the library
  • dealing with customers with mental health issues
  • substance abuse in the library
  • cyber security threats and protection
  • policies and procedures — best practices
  • crisis management and communication
  • HR issues and much more.

If you are interested in presenting a program, please consider contacting one of the OLC’s Divisions or Committees to sponsor your submission. Whether you’re a novice at presenting or a veteran, the OLC welcomes your proposals.

The deadline for proposals has been extended to Thurs., July 18, 2019.

For those working toward their Ohio Public Librarian or Ohio Public Library Staff re-certification, this conference will count as six (6) contact hours of credit.
