Services for youth (of all ages) are in a constant state of change from forces both within our libraries and outside the profession. The OLC is hosting an all-new conference later this summer for library staff who serve children and teens. Beyond Books & Programs: Changing Youth Services Conference will be held on Fri., Aug. 10 on the campus of Ohio University in Athens. While books and programming will always be a cornerstone of what we do, this conference will focus on the other aspects of library services for children and teens. You’ll take a closer look at how to best serve patrons from birth through high school and explore innovative ideas that you can implement at your library. The educational programming features a variety of breakout sessions in five tracks:

  1. Unique Populations
  2. Technology
  3. Intellectual Freedom and Collections
  4. Get Creative
  5. Marketing/Outreach
Dr. Courtney Koestler, Director, Ohio Center for Equity in Mathematics and Science at Ohio University, will kick off the conference with a candid discussion on how “everything is political and nothing is neutral” and how this relates to our work in supporting the critical literacy of students, families, and community members. The full agenda and session descriptions are available on the OLC website. The member fee is $90 ($180 for non-members). The deadline to register is Fri., Aug. 3.
