New Webinar Explores Free Online Reference Resources

Pricey commercial databases can be out of reach for many public libraries. How can we provide our patrons with quality information if we can’t afford these costs? The OLC will host a new webinar this fall that will cover free online resources that anyone can access, and that can replace some or all of the functionality of familiar commercial databases. No Budget? No Problem – Free Online Reference Resources for Library Staff will be held on Thurs., Oct. 12 from 2-3 p.m.

You will learn more about free online resources that are applicable to a variety of queries received while working the library desk. Plus, you’ll gain a better understanding of the resources available that can help with starting a search when you are unfamiliar with a particular topic. Topics will include Readers’ Advisory, Literary Criticism, History and Geography, Science, Careers and Self Education, Reading and Writing, Health, Genealogy, and Consumer Resources.

Space is limited to the first 98 registrants. The fee is $20 for members (non-member fee: $40). Learn more and register.

This event is sponsored by the Reference and Information Services Division (RISD).
