OLC Members Approve Amendments to Change Chapters, Officer Titles

In a special election conducted from Oct. 3-14, OLC members voted in favor of the Board of Directors’ proposals to amend the Code of Regulations to (1) dissolve the OLC Chapters and (2) update the titles of the OLC officers. Both measures passed by significant margins.

The OLC Code of Regulations will be amended to discontinue the function of the OLC Chapters after the 2017 Chapter Conferences. Beginning in 2018, the OLC will present targeted, subject-specific professional development programming developed by the Committees and Divisions and presented at regional sites around the state on a rotating basis. These events will continue to include peer-to-peer education programs as well as featured speakers from both inside and outside of the library community (as appropriate) and serve as outstanding networking opportunities for attendees.

Next, the charge of the OLC’s Professional Development Committee (formerly the Library Education Committee) will be expanded to have an integral role in this new direction in education and will ensure that the needs of libraries in all parts of the state are being addressed. The committee will serve in an advisory capacity for all of the OLC’s professional development activities and work with the Committees, Divisions and staff to plan the targeted, subject-specific programming.

The OLC Code of Regulations will also be amended to update the titles of the OLC officers. The officers, as elected by the Board members themselves, will be referred to as Chair of the Board, Vice Chair of the Board/Chair-Elect, Secretary-Treasurer, and Immediate Past Chair. The new titles reflect the true nature of the role of the officers and their service to OLC.
