Purpose and Objectives |
The purpose of this division is to represent the interests of and provide a forum for administrators, staff members, and trustees of small libraries on issues of particular concern to small libraries in Ohio.
A small library as defined by the Small Libraries Division includes but is not limited to libraries that meet the following criteria – (Revised 11/04)
- An operating budget under $1,000,000
- A service population of less than 20,000
2012 Objectives:
- To encourage networking among small library directors through a series of forums.
- Director's Forums will be facilitated by OLC and the Small Libraries Division Action Council representatives. They will encourage discussion of crucial issues facing small libraries and attempt to resolve them and gain new ideas through group insights.
- Forums are slated for Spring 2012 in five sites around the state. The sites will be held at libraries in the Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, and Southwest. North and Central sites will be combined at one location.
- To establish a mentorship program for new small library directors and for new YA and Children's librarians around the state.
- Interested library directors, YA librarians, and Children's librarians will contact a Small Libraries Division representative and they will be placed with a mentor in their area that will discuss problems and guide them in whatever way necessary.
- The mentorship will commence in January 2012 and run for one year. Promotion for the program will be through emails, the Small Libraries Blog, the OLC Access newsletter, and social networking sites starting in December 2011.
- To promote new programming for Small Libraries and their support staff at Chapter
Conferences in 2012.
